2020 Domaine Faiveley Corton Gran Cru "Clos de Corton Faiveley", Burgundy, France

2020 Domaine Faiveley Corton Gran Cru "Clos de Corton Faiveley", Burgundy, France

ABOUT THE WINE

The 2020 vintage of Clos des Corton Faiveley stands as a flagship in the domaine’s lineup and is the only Grand Cru Monopole in Burgundy owned entirely by a single producer. Sourced exclusively from a 2.76-hectare plot at the northern edge of the Corton hill, the wine benefits from an ideal east-facing exposition and limestone-rich marl soils. Faiveley’s approach in this vintage emphasized balance and finesse: hand-harvested fruit was fully destemmed, followed by a cold soak and fermentation with native yeasts. The wine was aged in 60–70% new French oak for 16–18 months, contributing subtle spice and depth without overshadowing the terroir.

The 2020 vintage, marked by a warm growing season and low yields, produced fruit of remarkable concentration and phenolic maturity. The result is a wine of both power and precision, offering notes of black cherry, plum, cedar, iron, and a lifted floral top note, with firm tannins and a stony finish. Decanting is recommended in its youth, but the wine will continue to evolve beautifully for two to three decades. Pair with classic dishes such as duck breast with cherries, roast pigeon, or aged Burgundian cheeses.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Founded in 1825 and based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy’s most historic and respected family-run estates. Now helmed by Erwan Faiveley, the domaine has undergone a significant stylistic evolution since the early 2010s, focusing on a more refined and terroir-transparent expression across its vast holdings. With over 120 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious plots in both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, Faiveley is particularly known for its meticulous vineyard management and selective harvesting practices.

In the Clos des Corton Faiveley monopole, the domaine showcases its commitment to sustainable viticulture and precision winemaking. The vineyard is managed using lutte raisonnée principles, minimizing chemical use and promoting biodiversity. In the cellar, Erwan and technical director Jérôme Flous aim for purity and structure, crafting wines that reflect site character with impressive age-worthiness. This Grand Cru is a testament to Faiveley’s ability to bridge tradition with modern elegance.
