Sustainable Chardonnay from Mâconnais, Burgundy, France. A single vineyard of 30+ year old vines selected by Peter Weygandt, 'Sous le Bois' means Below the Woods, which is just where this protected parcel is situated, at the highest point above La Roche Vineuse. Grown on clay and calcareous soil. Fermentation between 10 and 20 days with temperature control. maturing on lees until bottling. A deliciously fruity and fresh Chardonnay for any occasion.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
A Mâconnaise house as well as an old winery restored in order to become a museum are the witnesses of wine activity since 1585. It's in 1789 that the buried cellar was built, then the castle in 1830 showing the past success.
Three generations have produced wine in Mâconnais at the Château de la Greffière. Therefore, it's with experience and determination that they produce wines each year with different aromas that are very expressive.
The wine growing estate is in La Roche Vineuse, in Mâconnais, in the south of Burgundy. This area is pretty hilly can offer different appellations as "Mâcon La Roche Vineuse". We are working with 4 Burgundy grapes varieties, "Chardonnay, Aligoté" for white wines and "Pinot Noir, Gamay" for red wines. It's not a coincidence that they use those grapes as they match perfectly with the soil to make quality wine. As you can see with all the different AOC in the area, the grapes give various characteristics and offer rich wines such as "Bourgogne" or "Saint Véran". Thanks to this geography place, they can offer you 8 different appellations at the winery.
More than half of the vineyard are close to the winery. The clay and calcareous soil combined with a south west exposure, give rounded and mineral wines.
