The “Pekin Red” is part of Avondale’s Jonty’s Ducks range—named after the estate’s natural pest-control crew of ducks—and exemplifies the estate’s organic and biodynamic commitment. A blend dominated by Syrah, with Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot rounding out the composition, it showcases a harmonious marriage of Rhône and Bordeaux varietals, adapted to the Paarl terroir.
Hand-harvested grapes from decomposed granite soils were naturally fermented using indigenous yeasts, followed by maturation in a mix of seasoned oak barrels to preserve fruit purity and textural finesse. The result is a wine brimming with dark berry fruit, hints of baking spice, and a touch of garrigue.
