2023 Domaine Cordier Viré-Clessé "Vieilles Vignes", Burgundy, France

2023 Domaine Cordier Viré-Clessé "Vieilles Vignes", Burgundy, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

This cuvée is crafted from old-vine Chardonnay—many vines exceeding 50 years of age—planted in the limestone-rich soils of the Viré-Clessé appellation in southern Burgundy’s Mâconnais. The “Vieilles Vignes” designation reflects both vine age and the concentration they naturally produce, resulting in deeper texture and aromatic complexity.

The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed to preserve freshness and purity. Fermentation typically occurs with native yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak barrels, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain the focus rather than oak influence. The wine rests on its fine lees for several months, adding subtle richness and structure while maintaining the region’s hallmark precision.

The 2023 vintage expresses a harmonious balance between ripe fruit and bright acidity, giving the wine immediate appeal while also allowing for short-term cellaring. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as scallops or oysters, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or soft-ripened cheeses.
