2023 Domaine Sérol "Éclat de Granite", Côte Roannaise, Loire Valley, France

2023 Domaine Sérol "Éclat de Granite", Côte Roannaise, Loire Valley, France

ABOUT THE WINE

Produced from organically and biodynamically farmed Gamay Saint-Romain, “Éclat de Granite” is sourced from hillside vineyards rooted in the granite-rich soils of the Côte Roannaise, a small and historic appellation in the upper Loire Valley. The region’s cool climate and high-elevation sites contribute freshness, aromatic precision, and mineral tension to the wine.

The name “Éclat de Granite,” meaning “spark of granite,” reflects both the vineyard soils and the wine’s lifted, crystalline character. Hand-harvested fruit undergoes gentle extraction and fermentation with native yeasts to preserve purity and site expression. Aging in neutral vessels allows the wine’s bright fruit and mineral profile to remain at the forefront.

The 2023 vintage offers crunchy red berry flavors accented by floral notes, white pepper, and subtle earthy undertones. Fresh and highly versatile, the wine pairs beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, lentils, and soft-ripened cheeses.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Led by Stéphane and Carine Sérol, the domaine has played a significant role in elevating the appellation through meticulous vineyard work, organic and biodynamic farming, and a commitment to terroir transparency.

The estate’s vineyards are planted primarily on steep granite slopes, where low-intervention farming and biodiversity are central to their philosophy. In the cellar, the approach emphasizes native fermentations, restrained extraction, and minimal manipulation to allow each vineyard site to speak clearly through the wine.
